Hello! My name is Teresa Santana and I am blessed to be teaching at Our Lady of Guadalupe School. My current homeroom teaching assignment is Kindergarten. I consider myself a bit of an expert in the area of early childhood development.
At my grade level, there are certain curricular highlights every year.
In Religion class you can count on students exploring the wonders of God's creation that surround us. We also learn about Jesus' love for us, and how prayer can express our love for Him. Bible stories reveal who God is and how he sent his Son for us. We learn how we should love one another.
Math curriculum for Kindergarten includes representing, relating, and operating with whole numbers. Students will also be gaining foundations for place value and understanding addition and subtraction. They will identify and describe shapes and compare their measurable attributes.
Reading and Language development at this grade level is sure to include the matching of sounds and letters, story crafting, vocabulary development, personal writing and so much more. Many of the Kindergarteners will be excellent readers by the end of their Kindergarten year.
In Science Kindergarten will explore weather and climate, ecosystems and the relationships of living things. We also learn about forces at work in the world around us and natural interactions.
Social Studies curriculum at this grade level focuses on key concepts such as my home and my family, our country and our state, and the planet Earth, our home.
Every year also takes us on its own special journey. There are many traditional events and a few surprises. In the past, our curriculum has led us to such activities as planting our own garden and having the “Teddy Bear Picnic” with our 8th grade buddies.
There is so much to learn and do in Kindergarten. Come by our campus and I can tell you even more about Kindergarten !
